About the role
Vulcan is one of the few companies directly building both scheme and software for the Home Energy Model era. We are approved to operate an assessor scheme, and our software is already used by policymakers, leading consultancies, and assessors.
We are looking for a Business Development Lead to help grow Vulcan's customer base and build our go-to-market engine. This role is about market mapping, partnerships, pipeline creation, positioning, and closing early commercial opportunities in a market that is being reshaped by the Home Energy Model transition.
This is not a generic SaaS sales role. It is especially relevant if you have built commercial traction in a technical or regulated market, and can combine commercial instinct with enough domain credibility to win trust quickly.
This will start as a flexible contract role, with a path to full-time. The role is UK-based and mostly remote.
What you'll do
- Build and refine Vulcan's go-to-market approach for the assessor scheme and related services
- Develop relationships with assessors, firms, consultancies, and other relevant stakeholders
- Translate market feedback into clearer positioning, messaging, and commercial priorities
- Help build the early commercial systems, partnerships, and repeatable growth processes that support scale
- Work closely with the founder and product team to identify where demand is strongest and how Vulcan should respond
- Represent Vulcan credibly in industry conversations about the future of assessment and home energy modelling
What you'll probably own in the first 6 months
- Identify the customer segments and partnership channels most likely to convert early
- Build and test repeatable sales motions with assessors, consultancies, and other potential customers.
- Refine how Vulcan is positioned for different audiences, based on real market conversations
- Create a clearer commercial pipeline from first conversation through to signed opportunity
- Help close early commercial opportunities and feed market insight back into product and strategy
What we're looking for
You are likely to be a strong fit if you:
- can build credibility with assessors, consultancies, and other stakeholders in the market
- are interested enough in building science and real surveying workflows in order to explain Vulcan clearly and credibly to technical customers
- care deeply about high-performance homes and want to improve outcomes for assessors and their clients
- can drive partnerships, pipeline, and commercial momentum without waiting for a finished playbook
- are comfortable taking ownership beyond a narrow job description
- are willing to challenge the industry's status quo when better ways of working are possible
This is likely not a fit if you want a conventional sales role with a well-defined playbook, or if you are uncomfortable building commercial structure while also helping shape the category narrative.
