About the role
We are looking for an experienced candidate to lead the development of Vulcan’s training and quality assurance service for our new Domestic Energy Assessor Scheme. You will design and deliver training for assessors, and embed appropriate quality checks and audit processes directly into Vulcan’s energy modelling tools.
This role is focused on developing the foundation for Vulcan’s service and how assessors experience our scheme day to day. Initially, this will be a strategic contract-based position, with the potential to grow into a more substantial role as Vulcan’s scheme develops. It is a critical hire for us: we want to find the right person to lead this project and get it right, not just tick all the boxes we have described.
We are open to part-time and flexible arrangements. Salary will be competitive and based on experience and expertise. A start date from Q1 2026 is anticipated, with flexibility for notice periods. The role is UK-based and mostly remote, with occasional in-person meetings and training sessions.
About you
The ideal candidate will ideally have experience of the following:
- Significant experience as a practising Domestic Energy Assessor (ideally OCDEA)
- A competent communicator, with experience as an educator or trainer
- Experience of assessor training
- Experience of assessment auditing
- An appreciation of the need for reliability and accuracy in assessments
- An interest in how software can be harnessed to help its users do better quality work
You are comfortable teaching others, care deeply about accurate assessments, and are interested in how better tools and processes can help assessors work faster and make fewer mistakes.
What you'll do in your first months
- Build a curriculum to teach Energy Assessors how to use Vulcan, understand HEM inputs and outputs, and use Vulcan for both compliance and meaningful energy advice (not just "box-ticking").
- Deliver this curriculum via live online sessions and refine it based on feedback and audit findings.
- Develop recorded modules for self-driven learners, and refine them based on feedback and audit findings.
- Work with the product team to embed this curriculum in the software (guided flows, in-app tips, validation rules, example projects).
- Deliver audits for early assessments and design a scalable, risk-based audit operating model as Vulcan's scheme grows.
- Contribute to the development of Vulcan’s Scheme Operating processes and the Scheme Operating Handbook (already initially developed and aligned with MHCLG), helping to evolve these over time as you learn from real cases.
- Contribute to identifying and delivering improvements in Vulcan's product and services that prevent audit errors – for example automated evidence parsing, validation warnings, and clearer guidance for edge cases.
- Support the process to register Vulcan with a qualifying body (ABBE), including developing training materials, assessment criteria, and quality assurance processes for initial OCDEA qualifications.
Vulcan is at an early, fast-moving stage. As long as you're helping us build a robust, trusted scheme and enabling assessors to deliver better outcomes, we expect this role to grow with you.
