Scheme Operations Lead

Contract with path to full-timeUK-based, mostly remote

About the role

Vulcan is one of the few companies directly building both scheme and software for the Home Energy Model era. We are approved to operate an assessor scheme, and our software is already used by policymakers, leading consultancies, and assessors.

We are looking for a Scheme Operations Lead to build the training, quality assurance, member support, and operating processes behind that scheme. This role sits where regulation, operations, and product meet, and will directly shape how assessors and stakeholders experience Vulcan day to day.

This is not a traditional assessor role. It is especially relevant if you have worked in assessor training, quality assurance, auditing, or scheme operations, and want to help define how these should work in the Home Energy Model era.

This will start as a flexible contract role, with a path to full-time. The role is UK-based and mostly remote.

What you'll do

  • Help design and run the operational systems behind Vulcan's assessor scheme
  • Develop training materials and delivery methods for members using Vulcan in practice
  • Build and improve quality assurance, audit, and feedback processes
  • Support assessors and other stakeholders as they adopt new workflows in the Home Energy Model era
  • Work closely with the product team to turn recurring operational issues into better software, guidance, and validation
  • Help shape scheme processes so they are rigorous, practical, and scalable

What you'll probably own in the first 6 months

  • Roll out and refine training for early scheme members using Vulcan in real assessment workflows
  • Design initial QA and audit workflows that are supportive, credible, and scalable
  • Build support playbooks and operational guidance for common member and stakeholder issues
  • Create feedback loops from training, QA, and support into product improvements

What we're looking for

You are likely to be a strong fit if you:

  • understand both building science and the real complexity of on-the-ground surveying
  • have experience in assessor training, QA, auditing, or adjacent operational work, or could credibly grow into that quickly
  • care deeply about high-performance homes and want to improve outcomes for assessors and their clients
  • are comfortable taking ownership beyond a narrow job description
  • are willing to challenge the industry's status quo when better ways of working are possible
  • can communicate clearly with a wide range of people, including assessors, internal teammates, and external stakeholders

This is likely not a fit if you want a narrowly scoped internal role with little contact with real assessors, real cases, or evolving operational problems.
